Coast Guard Birthday

The Coast Guard Birthday honors the founding of the United States Coast Guard on August 4, 1790. Established by Alexander Hamilton as the Revenue Cutter Service, it is one of the oldest continuous seagoing services in our nation’s history. Over the years, it has evolved into a vital force responsible for maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship.

This day is on the calendar to recognize the dedication and bravery of the men and women who serve in the Coast Guard. Whether conducting search and rescue missions, enforcing maritime law, or responding to natural disasters, their commitment to protecting our coasts and saving lives is unwavering.

The Coast Guard operates in both peacetime and war, standing ready to defend our nation and assist those in need. Celebrating its birthday is a way to honor this proud tradition, to thank those who serve, and to reflect on the essential role the Coast Guard plays in our national security and everyday safety.
