Juneteenth

Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and civil rights for all Americans.

Recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth honors African American history, resilience, and the enduring struggle for freedom. It is a time to reflect on our past, celebrate progress, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and united future.

At the Huron County Veterans Service Office, we honor Juneteenth by recognizing the diverse service and sacrifices of African American Veterans throughout our nation’s history. Their contributions continue to shape the strength and integrity of our armed forces and our communities.
