National Guard Birthday

The National Guard celebrates its birthday each year on December 13, marking the founding of the oldest military organization in the United States. Established in 1636, the National Guard has served as a vital part of our nation's defense, made up of dedicated citizen soldiers who balance military service with civilian life.

We recognize this day to honor the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of those who serve in the National Guard. Whether responding to natural disasters at home or serving overseas, the men and women of the Guard stand ready to protect our communities and uphold our freedoms.

Their unique role as both state and federal forces reminds us that service can begin right in our own neighborhoods. On this day, we thank all current and former Guard members for their service, strength, and unwavering dedication.
